Kindness

The 7 holy virtues

"Death is a kindness"

Kindness embodies an act of generosity and consideration, without expecting praise nor reward in return. Kindness believes that death is the greatest act of kindness one could give, for it is her realm and she would care for those who have since departed away. Kindness is ensuring that life is as pleasant as it could be before the inevitable end, easing people's suffering and providing comfort in the darkest times. Life is worth a few laughs after all, for this the greatest comedy.

Kindness takes many forms, for different cultures have different depictions of death and the afterlife. However, she prefers a more optimistic and playful look of death instead of the one that is tragic and mournful. Kindness's weaponry of choice is that of a scythe.

Blessings

Kindness favors self-aware undead, those who never outright refused her ultimate gift of kindness, death, but find themselves lost between the realm of the living and death. However, she absolutely detests those who refuse death and find ways to prolong their lives in unnatural ways, therefore she finds herself detesting Liches and selfish necromancers but not immortals. Her followers tend to be gravekeepers, alchemists, mages, undead, taxidermists, doctors, and plenty of others.

Kindness blesses her Chosen Knight with the key to the realm of the dead, granting them the assistance of the departed in a multitude of ways. One could potentially phase through matter or request assistance from the dearly deceased, even from the realms of the other Fundamentals. Her idea of true necromancy is asking the dead for assistance and beseeching their aid, hoping that they would be kind enough to do one last service.

Domain of Kindness

Death is Kindness's domain. Her abilities revolve around the realm of the dead. Kindness blesses her followers with the ability to speak to the dead, and hopefully beseech their aid one more time before they return to the realm of the departed. Clerics of Kindness also know the secrets of cultivating Manabloom.

Path of Kindness

"Life is for the living, Death is for the dead, Sing for life, and dance for the dead, it needn't be a sorry affair."

"The path to Immortality is not harnessing sorcery, but in creating memories. For as long as you are remembered, you will never die."

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."

"Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear, the blind can see, and the dead can feel."

"Life is fleeting, be kind to each other while you still can. Remember that he who plants kindness, lingers in memories."

"Remember that the life of the dead is placed in the memories of the living."

Opinions on other Fundamentals

From an anonymous source who claims to have asked the Fundamentals about each other:

  • Authority “Authority is the one who decides where things have to stop. Someone has to say hasta aqui (this is as far as it goes) when everyone else keeps pushing. I don’t envy that job, la neta (honestly). It’s lonely work. People only notice you when you say no. I argue with him, claro (of course), but I know he carries that weight so others don’t have to. I just remind him sometimes to look down, to remember there are people under the roof he’s holding up.”
  • Diligence “Ese pobre (that poor man). He gives everything he has and then looks for more to give. Duty is how he shows love, even when it costs him. I respect that deeply. I just wish he believed me when I say descansar no es rendirse (resting isn’t giving up). The world doesn’t need martyrs all the time. Sometimes it just needs people who stay.”
  • Temperance “He wants balance because he’s seen what excess does to people. I understand that fear. I doo, but balance taught with a heavy hand becomes another cage. People learn best when they feel safe, not watched. I remind him of that, gently.”
  • Lust
“She’s my friend. Truly. People misunderstand her. She knows connection keeps people alive, not just bodies, corazones (hearts). Laughter, touch, warmth, belonging. Those things save lives in quiet ways. I trust her. She reminds the world that living is more than surviving.”
  • Patience “Patience is my friend. He knows how to sit with pain without trying to rush it away. He understands time the way I understand grief. When everyone’s upset and certain, he’s the one saying aguantate tantito (hold on a little). I like standing next to him, things feel less fragile.”
  • Chastity “He stands guard so others can sleep. Siempre firme (always steady). That kind of dedication changes a person. I respect him more than he knows. I just wish he let himself set the shield down sometimes. Even protectors deserve to breathe.”
  • Humility “Humility walks in the dark so others don’t have to. She reminds the powerful they can fall, and the careless that strength doesn’t make them untouchable. People say she is fear, but that’s not fair. Fear just follows her, like a shadow follows light. She takes arrogance apart so something honest can be left behind. I tend the wounds after. We understand each other like that.”
  • Wrath WIP
  • Pride “Pride teaches mortals to stand up and say aqui estoy (I’m here). I like that about him. People need to feel seen. I admire the beauty he brings into the world, the confidence he helps build. I just wish he remembered how heavy it is to be invisible. Not everyone can shine the same way, and that doesn’t make them less.”
  • Sloth “She gives people permission to stop. To sleep. To dream. To do nothing for a while. That’s kinder than most realize. I like her gentleness. I just keep an eye out, making sure rest doesn’t turn into hiding.”
  • Envy “Envy hurts so much it spills over. She’s always looking sideways, always wondering why not her. I don’t judge her for that. Wanting is her nature. I just wish she could rest long enough to see that worth isn’t something you steal. Compararte todo el tiempo te rompe (comparing yourself all the time breaks you).”
  • Greed “Greed is trying so hard not to be small again. I see that. I see the fear underneath all that shine. She gives people ambition, grit, ganas de seguir (the will to keep going). But she asks them to cling to life like it’s something you can hoard. I don’t agree with her. I don’t hate her either. I just won’t tell people that power can replace peace.”
  • Gluttony “Gluttony understands hunger. De verdad (truly). She knows what it’s like to feel empty and panic about it. I respect that honesty. I just wish she knew when to stop. Living isn’t meant to be endless consumption. We sit together sometimes, talking quietly about cuándo es suficiente (when it’s enough). Neither of us raises our voice.”
  • Charity “She gives because watching people fall apart hurts her, and I know that feeling well. We meet the same souls at different moments. She helps them keep going. I help them rest when they can’t anymore. There’s no conflict there. Just timing.”

Trivia

  • Despite her teachings, many worshipers believes that she wants to spread death to all, and as such partake in ritualistic murder and slaughter. She admires and loves their devotion, but does not look kindly to the results it causes.

  • To those who have suffered a great deal in their lives, Kindness herself will show in their final moments, ready to hold them tenderly as she carries their soul to her realm, where their suffering can finally end.

  • Being the patron of death, Kindness takes the form of a skeleton in which Manabloom bloom from. Undeads that worship Kindness are aware that they are an existence that , usually involuntarily, deny her kindness, and as such take it upon themselves to hunt unthinking, cursed undeads to give them mercy, and bring them towards the kind lady.

  • Those deceased may cross to other realms if they so wish, but because she's the one left in charge for death, everyone that died has to go through her realm first.
