Temperance

"Humanity is measured by self-control"

Temperance is the concept of self-restraint or moderation as the god of suffering, punishment and balance. Temperance is frequently portrayed as the most cruel of the fundamentals, to his devoted adherents he is regarded as anything but. Many individuals pray to Temperance in order to alleviate their own suffering, as they believe that he has a deeper understand of suffering than anyone else. They attempt to find meaning in their misfortunes by attributing it to divine punishment. The prisoners who are rotting in imprisonment pray to Temperance in order to obtain absolution and discover their purpose within the cage they are confined within. Peasants, who are toiling and suffering in the midst of a famine pray to him in order to find fortitude and will to continue.

Temperance endeavours to preserve a controlled expansion of technology and Magic within the Familiar Lands, as he abhors rapid change. Should one delve too deep within the sciences or sorceries or dare to combine the two, his presence is to be expected. He is aware that rapid growth results in widespread suffering and as a result; maintains an iron grip on such conceited notions.

To mortals, Temperance takes the form of an androgynous male dressed in rags and chains. Sickly pallid cold skin, and his mouth sewn shut, he almost appears as some sort of banshee, an eternal prisoner of his own making. Temperance's true form is a man carrying a breaking wheel, a symbol of Temperance himself taking on the suffering and weight of others. Though a breaking wheel could be see as one of man's cruelest inventions; to him is it a symbol of the pain that he must inherit. His weapon of choice if that of a mace.

Blessings

Temperance favors the downtrodden, and people with a strong sense of self-righteousness as well as status quo. His most capable followers are witch hunters who would pursue rogue mages and mad scientists.

Temperance's blessing is the ability to seal away someone's potential. Simply looking at a mage would deny them of their magics and temper them once more into a mere mortal. This works against magical beasts or ordinary folk as well, by sapping half of their strength.

Domain of Temperance

Temperance's domain is equality, that being said his blessings grant his clerics and devout followers the ability to resist and nullify magic. Temperance Clerics are able to cast anti magic spells and heal curses, dependent on their skills an devotion. Temperance candidates are capable of resisting spells in general while the Chosen of Temperance can outright cancel a spell by maintaining vision against a mage.
