Magebreaker

Magebreakers are the Oathsworn of Temperance. Extremely effective at their namesake and excellent warriors in their own right, Magebreaker are typically trained from a young age, with some starting as early as age ten. Chosen from a pool of individuals who exhibit negative sensitivity to Magic, to the point where their mere existence weakens the magic around them, these individuals seem to have incredibly weak imagination and process everything extremely logically. Magebreakers are susceptible to extremist ideals because their cults tend to be the most extreme when it comes to seeking balance. Magical academies usually employ at least one Magebreaker to take down students that are consumed by madness. Strangely enough they tend to be friends with some of the members of the academy.

Extremely resistant to offensive and illusion sorcery and using a variety of specialized equipment, their armor falls short when it comes to physical attacks. Magebreakers must be able to face mages at any range, whether with crossbows or flails. They can take a portion of the damage intended for others, not to prevent it but to spread it, as long as they maintain a line of sight. This ability allows a group of Magebreakers to withstand severe punishment; witnesses reported that they have survived spells that would destroy a castle and blows that would have caved in their skulls. Their moonshaped helmet is meant to reflect or redirect spells, and was dubbed "lightning rod" due to its height. They also carry a cage for transporting their quarry, which contains a small amount of Sapcoral to absorb magic use. Their prey is often taken alive and the guilty mage's blood harvested to use in enchanting and scroll writing; essentially turned into living ink dispensers.

Oathbreaking Acts

  • Pain must mean something. Do not prevent necessary hardship. Do not inflict meaningless suffering.

  • If one believe balance is unnecessary or that suffering has no meaning, one must maintain their convictions.

  • Creating imbalance intentionally to justify intervention.

  • Hoarding power under the guise of regulation.

Tribulations

MARTYR COMPLEX: Magebreakers carry a lot of burden as they try to keep everything balanced at the cost of their selves. They will refuse help, hide their pain and volunteer for the toughest challenges.

EMOTIONAL WITHHOLDING: They struggle to comfort others because they believe suffering is instructional. They hesitate to console the grieving and may seem cold, even when they care deeply.

"AM I PREVENTING RAIN, OR DELAYING GROWTH?": The very question that always plague the Magebreakers are their role as arbiters of balance. They must prevent harmful advancements and slow them down if needed to maintain the Fundamental Order, but decisions are difficult and weigh heavily upon the soul.
