Bards
Roles & Positions
Bards are far more than folk with a talent for singing and dancing; naye, they are the foundation to any proper society within the Familiar Lands. They travel far and wide, acquiring wisdom and stories, events that transpired, wars that have been fought, and then spread it to the people. Without the bards spreading information and news, Great Europa will cease to exist as an entity, as communication will break down. Proper Bards hail from the aptly named Bard's guild, which serves the crown and provides authenticity to their words.
Bards are highly trained individuals who do more than just spread information in the form of song and rhyme; they are also distributors of crown seals and, consequently, dark seals. Bards search out Knights who prove themselves capable and award them seals approved by the crown; they also issue out quests to them based on the location and capability of the Knight. Much like the Knights of Great Europa, the Bards are also measured in capability and experience: with greater ranks come more responsibility:
- Chirpers tend to stay in smaller communities and villages; they often act as town criers and provide entertainment as well. These are bards in training: they have much to learn in songweaving and rhymes.
- Orators are bards who have completed their training. They are permitted to hold profitable concerts as well as being trustworthy. Orators can officially hand out quests and crown seals to Knights.
- "Maestro" is for bards who have shown great promise and excellence. These bards are trained in the art of stealth by the finest Humility followers, highly skilled in hiding their presence and able to easily escape if they are caught. Thus, they can safely distribute dark seals to dangerous individuals. Dark Sealers are dangerous individuals, usually criminals and unhinged Knights that receive a designation that marks them as improper members of society. Only those with Maestro ranks are allowed to approach and apply dark seals to them.
Portabard
Not every Knight can stop by a village or town during their travels, and so the Portabards, as the name implies, serve as a bard one can easily carry around, and that informs them of the current happenings. Portabards are psychically inclined creatures that seem to mirror the master bard—the one whose words they repeat—over great distances, mimicking their voice and expressions to deliver news and quests.
Rogue Bards
Rogue Bards are bards who are exiled by the Bard's guild due to improper conduct. Oftentimes, a bard could be bribed with wealth and fame to spread misinformation and lies. For a proper bard, this is extremely illegal, and a heavy punishment awaits those who deliberately spread misinformation.
