Toadlord
Monsters
Toadlords are mostly large creatures that can be found consuming everything from rocks, soil, plants and occasionally creatures from time to time. Fond of meadows and plains, they could be found hopping here and there, carrying almost an entire ecosystem on their backs. Considered a good luck charm, for having them present in an environment indicates the area to be healthy and hospitable. Toadlords have a unique mossy and grassy scent, and can usually be found surrounded by sheep and other animals. These creatures are able to remain still for hours, as if photosynthesizing. Only the most accomplished Charity Clerics are capable of riding the Toadlords as their steed.
Toadlords are crucial for biodiversity as they carry other creatures upon their backs, to the point where some birds would even construct their nests on top of these large creatures. They also help spread seeds and pollen of plantlife into otherwise unreachable locations. They tend to move with a reason in mind, going to places where they are needed and then changing that environment into one that is rich with nature's bounty. Settlements are made in places that are known to have Toadlords inhabiting them, a sure sign that there is plentiful of food and fertile soil. Unfortunately Toadlords can grow sick, and when they do they become highly contagious plague spreaders, though these are very rarely seen.
Combat Capabilities
Toadlords are gentle creatures, considered one of the sacred beasts of Charity and thus hunting them is illegal. However, they will defend themselves when harmed, capable of swallowing a knight whole. Toadlords have the strength to carry tons of rocks and even uproot trees. They can also jump over cliffs if there is enough space. Toadlords are not intelligent enough to utilize magics in a meaningful way, but their bodies tend to leave many manablooms as they decay. All combat encounters must be in self defense, killing a toadlord would severely damage and ecosystem and prevent Trespasser corrupted areas to be recovered. In the event there are poachers actively hunting a Toadlord, citizens of Carthigia should come to the Toadlord's defense. However lingering too long can make them think they're a delicious rock and try to swallow their protector on accident.
If met with a particularly hungry toadlord, it is best and more logical to avoid it's large mouth. A toadlord's tongue could extend for a surprising distance and is strong enough to uproot trees. Getting grabbed by it's incredibly sticky tongue is a guaranteed trip into its mouth, though not the end if one ends up being swallowed. If this happens one will be covered in thick and stinky mucus that will irritate the skin but won't melt you immediately. Thrashing in its stomach is known to force the toadlord to regurgitate the swallowed person.
Lord's Excrement
Though disgusting, the Toadlord's feces are incredibly desirable by farmers and herbalists alike. They are a super fertilizer that can nourish a plant to grow unnaturally fast. An apple tree which grew from a Lord's excrement is known to grow to bear fruits in a week, producing the largest apples known to man. Toadlords do not do well in captivity and it is considered illegal to capture them, so most excrement must be found in the wild before anything grows on it, lest it's value and nourishing qualities diminishes.
