Tidewraith

The Oathsworns of Hope. Tidewraiths are forlorn spirits who have entered into a pact with Hope. They pledge to combat on her behalf in pursuit of a more just and compassionate future for themselves. They carry their literal hopes on their shoulder, whispering to like a consort, and does whatever it is needed for them. Tidewraiths are formed during periods of loss. Following the loss of a loved one, a Knight might swear an oath with Hope, binding their loved ones to them. The Tidewraith clings onto hope. They desire to find a way to bring their loved ones back, at the cost of their own sanity and bodies deteriorating.

There are tales of sailors forming bonds with mermaids and ultimately outliving them, inspiring one to find hope somewhere amidst the ocean. Tidewraiths are often the very first people that show up during disasters, becoming of hope for the weary. Tidewraiths are frequently observed accompanying refugees for unexplained reasons. They neither lead nor follow; instead, they walk alongside them, sharing their suffering and offering a modest measure of hope. They can also be observed rescuing individuals from shipwrecks.

Tidewraiths exhibit exceptional durability and strength, which are necessary qualities given their capacity to endure the immense pressures of the deep sea. They are altered by the passage of time; ultimately, the sea will transform them into grotesque aquatic monsters. Tidewraiths could be seen fighting patrols of knights or their navy. They are considered heretics in most civilized places and are to be subdued on sight.
