Owlrilla
Monsters
Strange avian creature that seems to have a limited capability of flight even with their hulking mass of a body. Owlrillas tend to have body shapes commonly seen from powerlifters, with layers of fat and muscle hidden underneath their very soft feathers. Usually solitary, however incredible territorial, experienced outdoorsman could see claw marks upon trees and hooting from a distance to identify an Owlrilla territory. They are incredibly aggressive to intruders, especially if they are rearing their young, and it doesn't help that they are strictly carnivorous as well. However for unknown reason they prefer the flesh of beastfolks the most. Owlrillas keep the ecosystem in check, also known to hunt and kill unfamiliars within their territories, some settlements are even known to have managed to tame them into mounts to defend themselves.
Owlrillas are capable of learning the usage of simple tools such as shovels, pickaxes or pulley systems, some even try to tame them to serve as soldiers or ballista loaders during wartime. Taming an Owlrilla requires one to be raised from the egg, letting one imprint on you and acknowledge the tamer as its mother. They can also be taught sign language as well and could communicate this way with humans.
Combat Capabilities
Physically imposing, an Owlrilla could easily tear apart a man in two and pummel them into paste. They can easily climb trees and glide down to ambush their prey; pummeling them into smithereens before consuming the tenderized carcass. Strangely stealthy due to their feathers acting as sound suppressors, the dense layer of fat and muscle would be difficult for ordinary blades to penetrate, but the feathers would make blunt weapons ineffective against the Owlrilla. Owlrillas do not have any magical potential, yet this doesn't diminish their strength and the threat they impose. Due to their strength and deceptively stealthy capabilities, The Crown has given them 3 Menace Marks, not to be tackled by a fledgling knight.
To properly hunt one, a hunter must identify an Owlrilla's territory, masking their scent as much as possible to confuse their senses. Particularly sensitive to light, a strong and sudden source of light such as flash bombs would temporarily stun and blind them, allowing a few good hits in. Loud sounds disorient them as well and mess with their sense of equilibrium, circles of shieldsmen surrounding an Owlrilla and continuously banging their shields will cause massive confusion to the beast.
Owlrilla Eye
A precious alchemical reagent, known for their nightvision granting properties. An Owrilla Eye potion could grant someone with far better sight for at least 12 hours, making it invaluable for those working in darkness. An exceptional Alchemist could even make a potion that cures blindness with the right formulae and techniques, but its effects would be temporary.
